FAQ

How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

If my website resonates with you then chances are we will be a good fit to work together. If you are unsure, then you can email or text me on my HIPAA compliant phone app at 803-881-9810 so we can schedule a 10 minute phone consultation.

How long is a counseling session?

Counseling sessions are generally 60 minutes. If we think we need a longer session then we can schedule 75-90 minutes.

How many times will I need to go to counseling?

It honestly depends if you are in a crisis situation or wanting to work through something that’s been weighing on you heavily for a while or seeking guidance and validation on your journey. Sessions can be weekly, bi-weekly, monthly . . .whatever works best for you.

How much does it cost?

The first session is $100 and subsequent sessions are $95 for a 60-minute session.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, I am a provider for Companion Benefit Alternatives, which handles behavioral health for all Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, Aetna, and United Healthcare.

How does this work?

If you have a BCBS, Aetna or United Healthcare policy with mental health benefits I will file the insurance claim for you. You will be responsible for the full cost of the session until your deductible is met. Once your deductible is met then you will only be responsible for the copay.

If you are not covered by one of the BCBS policies and you have a policy with out-of-network benefits, then I can give you a “super-bill” to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. (A super-bill is an industry term for a clinical receipt that is properly coded for insurance companies.)

How can I afford therapy?

Try to think about therapy as an investment instead of a short-term fix or a band-aid for the problem. This type of investment will bring positive, long lasting changes. You, as well as your family, friends and colleagues will benefit from your investment. Counseling is priceless as your whole self – mind, body, spirit – will benefit.

Some women come in weekly at first, then bi-weekly, then monthly, bi-monthly and then maybe a couple of “tune up” sessions a year. So, yes, it is affordable, do-able, and worth it.
